Police Offer Traffic Warnings for Fall Races at Texas Motor Speedway

North Texas will welcome approximately 150,000 NASCAR fans this weekend and with them increased traffic on congested roads.

The Fort Worth Police Department reminds residents and visitors to expect traffic delays as Texas Motor Speedway plays host the popular fall races.

The race schedule includes:

  • Friday: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Longhorn 350, 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: NASCAR Xfinity Series O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge, 2 p.m.
  • Sunday: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AAA Texas 500, 1 p.m.

“Roads surrounding TMS will be extremely congested. Due to continued construction on Highway 114, traffic patterns may vary from those in previous years,” police warned in a media release.

They ask residents to avoid the area if possible, but recognize that is not an option for some who live, work and travel in the area.

“Fort Worth Police suggest you use the ‘West is best’ approach. This means try to use routes that are to the west of the speedway and avoid traveling near the intersection of I-35W and Highway 114 to travel to the west,” police said.

Police encourage following electronic road signs and posted instructions.

“All lanes and gates will permit entry, so patrons should stay in their designated lanes once in the cone pattern,” police said. “Traffic leaving the speedway after each race will be placed into different traffic lanes from the exit gates. Each lane will go to a specific major roadway.”

Expect officers working special patrols and adding security to neighborhoods near the speedway.
