Armed Man Shot While Approaching DPS Special Agents, DPS Says

Texas Rangers investigating DPS-related shooting in Dallas

A man who approached DPS Special Agents while armed with a handgun is in serious condition after being shot Tuesday morning.

Lt. Lonny Haschel, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the agents were in an unmarked van working a case at an apartment complex in the 9800 block of Adleta Boulevard when someone pulled up behind them in a SUV and boxed them in.

A man armed with a handgun then exited the SUV and approached the DPS agents.

The agents, Haschel said, fearing for their lives, shot the man. He was given first aid and then transferred to a hospital in serious condition.

Two additional people inside the SUV were taken into custody and are being questioned.

Haschel said he did not know why the man approached the agents or why he was armed.

The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
