Friends and former NFL players are pitching-in to provide assistance to a high school football player paralyzed earlier this season.
Jared Williams broke his neck while playing for Pinkston High School in October and is now confined to a wheelchair.
A fundraiser last wekeend at Jazzy's Restaurant on Hampton Road was hosted by former NFL players Aaron Wallace (Raiders), Kevin Williams (Cowboys) and Jeff Fuller (49ers). The group hopes to raise enough money to get Williams and his mother out of their rental home and into one that will be handicapped-accessible.
"I'm blessed," said Arlenna Williams, Jared's mother. "I cant even explain how excited I am about this, it's just so overwhelming."
Funds raised at Jazzy's will go to Project 24, a fund organizers hope will raise 24 cents from every student in the Dallas Independent School District to cover the costs of building a home for the Williams family.
Why 24 cents? The number 24 was Jared's football number.
Donations to Project 24 can be made at any Bank of America location into account number 488026829175.
