Must-Win Week For Weary Mavericks

I don’t wanna hear the excuses.

The Mavs need to beat the Spurs. Period.

To help their playoff prospects and positioning, sure. But more so to prove to the Spurs – and to themselves – that they can actually be a legit contender to make a run in the Western Conference.

Because with the way they’ve played the last two months and two games, that is in jeopardy at this point.

Rajon Rondo can’t shoot. Even with the addition of Amar’e Stoudemire Dallas can’t rebound. And Monta Ellis’ head is seemingly more focused on his contract than his shooting.

But all that be damned, the Mavs just have to split this back-to-back with the defending champs tonight at American Airlines Center and Friday at AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Of their 44 wins, only a handful have been meaningful, playoff-type wins over elite teams. They ran the Clippers off the court last week, then promptly wilted in losses to the Grizzlies and Suns.

After tonight the Mavs will have 10 games remaining. It’s time for them to play hard, and play well. Or else.
