The punishment phase will begin Monday in the case of a Fort Worth gang member convicted of capital murder in the robbery-slaying of a Godley woman.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for 30-year-old Mark Anthony Soliz, who confessed to killing 61-year-old Nancy Weatherly, a longtime Lockheed Martin worker. His former girlfriend said he laughed about her pleas for mercy.
The Star-Telegram reported that it took a Johnson County jury only 10 minutes Friday to find Soliz guilty.
The shooting of Weatherly in June 2010 ended an eight-day crime spree that included the death of Ben E. Keith deliveryman Ruben Martinez in Fort Worth the same day, several shootings, armed robberies, a drive-by shooting and burglaries.
