Johnny Manziel's Dallas Court Date on Domestic Violence Indictment Rescheduled for November

Case rescheduled for Nov. 17 at Frank Crowley Courts Building

Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel's court date for a domestic violence case involving an ex-girlfriend has been rescheduled for November.

Manziel was to appear Oct. 3, but the hearing was rescheduled over the weekend for Nov. 17. The case had been scheduled to be heard at least twice before, on Sept. 29 and Sept. 15, but was rescheduled both times.

Manziel, who is from Kerrville, was indicted in April by a Dallas County grand jury in connection with an alleged Jan. 29 incident involving then-girlfriend Colleen Crowley.

According to Crowley, the pair had a confrontation at a Dallas hotel that continued to the valet stand, where she said she was forced into a car despite her pleas for help. When she later tried to jump out of the car, she said, Manziel hit her.

Manziel posted bond May 4 in Highland Park after being booked on the misdemeanor assault family violence charge. Crowley was later granted a protective order that prohibits Manziel from being within 500 feet of her for two years and he was barred from possessing firearms. He was also ordered to pay $12,000 in Crowley's legal fees.

There was no restriction placed upon Manziel's ability to travel and no mention of curtailing his use of alcohol.

"They're the same terms that anybody else under the similar circumstances would have, nothing unusual about it at all," said Manziel's attorney Bob Hinton, in May.

Since the indictment, Manziel lost a number of endorsement deals and was cut by the Cleveland Browns. To date, he has not been picked up by another team and has re-enrolled at Texas A&M University.

Should Manziel return to the NFL, he faces a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy and may face further discipline pending the outcome of the domestic violence case.

In June, his off-the-field troubles continued when he reportedly punched a man at a friend's wedding in Hawaii. The next day, TMZ reported, Manziel sent the man a bottle of champagne and a hand-written apology. Manziel later said he planned to get sober in July.
