A former Texas district judge has been indicted on federal bribery, extortion and wire fraud charges for allegedly soliciting and taking bribes from a San Antonio lawyer while on the bench.
The indictment handed up in San Antonio accuses former judge Angus McGinty of taking bribes from lawyer Alberto Acevedo Jr.
Acevedo pleaded guilty March 17 to giving McGinty gifts and payments totaling more than $6,600 and promising to pay for car repairs McGinty needed, in return for favorable rulings. Acevedo admitted he was caught in an FBI investigation into suspected corruption at the Bexar County Courthouse.
McGinty resigned in February. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
Acevedo faces up to 10 years in prison and remains free on bond pending sentencing.
