Grandma Upset About Garage Sales Trashing Her Hood

Garage sales gone bad

Don't let the granny glasses fool you: Gay Revi is taking online action against what she says are repeat illegal garage sale offenders.

Her website, DallasGarageSalesFromHell.com, shows pictures of people Revi say "unload 60 pairs of jeans, 200 shoes, all kinds of toys and seven toilets and they aren’t collecting sales tax, so you know they're taking business away from local merchants."

Revi is on the lookout for people who haul in merchandise every week and hold lawn sales numerous times each month.

Homeowners aren't allowed more than two garage sales per year. According to Dallas City Code Enforcement, they also aren't allowed to sell merchandise from outside their homes.

Dallas's director of Code Compliance, Joey Zapata, said he "would love to see what information she has," so that the city could possibly conduct a sweep.

Zapata said the City Council has looked into the idea of making homeowners pay for a permit to hold a garage sale but, year after year, the council has failed to pass any ordinance requiring a permit.

"It would help us get a better handle of where the garage sales are being held and give us another tool to track them and make sure they are being compliant," he said.

Dallas residents are urged to call 311 to report an illegal garage sale.
