Friday's extreme heat made it tough for firefighters who battled a four-alarm house fire in Flower Mound.
One firefighter was sent to a local hospital with apparent dehydration on what MedStar EMS said was the worst day so far this summer for heat emergencies.
The fire in the 3000 block of High Point Drive was reported at about noon.
"The second floor and attic areas were well involved to the point that the roof was even starting to collapse." Fire Chief Eric Metzger said.
The flames spread quickly, delivering a huge challenge to fire crews working with 75 pounds of equipment in triple-digit heat.
The family was not at home at the time of the fire. Firefighters learned that two dogs were inside the house. One of the family's two dogs died in the blaze but Amber, a black Lab, emerged from the smoke.
"We're going to be looking to see if there are any animals inside," Metzger said.
