The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. at a 14-story building on the 4900 block of Greenville, just south of Lovers Lane near U.S. Highway 75.
Heavy smoke was reported on the fifth floor, where a computer apparently caught fire, according to the fire department.
Damage from the fire was minimal, but crews worked to ventilate the building of the smoke the fire generated.
The fire was accidental, and there were no injures, fire officials said.
The large fire department response resulted in several lanes of Greenville Avenue being blocked, causing some traffic delays in the area.
