The Tarrant County grand jury has indicted a man connected to the shooting of a Fort Worth police officer in March.
Ed McIver Jr. is charged with hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence. Each is a felony charge that could carry a 10-year prison sentence.
McIver Jr. is not charged with the actual shooting that wounded Officer Matt Pearce.
A defense attorney had argued that it was Ed McIver Sr. who shot Pearce after a chase through Fort Worth. He argued McIver Jr. never fired a gun, and even begged his father to stop and pull over.
McIver Sr. was killed in a shootout with police.
Pearce, who was critically wounded in the shooting, survived and is recovering.
In a statement released Tuesday, Kevin Rousseau, deputy criminal division chief for the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, said, "McIver was a willing participant in this incident which resulted in the attempted murder of FWPD Officer Matt Pearce, and he will be prosecuted for his crimes."
