DISD Re-Hires Teachers

57 teachers brought back after layoff

The Dallas Independent School District re-hired 57 teachers released during the past month.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa declared a financial emergency because of a project $84 million budget shortfall which led to workforce reductions.

The DISD cut nearly 650 employees because of the budget crisis.

The re-hires come after more employees than expected decided to retire or resign voluntarily.

The district's Human Development office says it will continue contacting teachers who were released to notify them of additional jobs as they become available.
