Dirk Not Counting on Durant in Dallas

You know how most Mavs fans start grumbling this time of year about how their team never signs a big free agent? Well apparently that sentiment is creeping into the mindset of a pretty important player as well.

Among the free agents this summer will be Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Obviously he’ll attract attention from every team, including Dallas. But, according to realist Dirk Nowitzki, we shouldn’t get our hopes up.

“He wants to play to win,” the Mavs’ future Hall of Famer told ESPN about Durant. “He’s got a great group of guys there in OKC. They’ve got everything going. They’ve got youth, they’ve got talent, they’ve got athleticism. He’s got a superstar player next to him. They’re loaded where he’s at.”

Not exactly an aggressive recruiting pitch from one Western Conference All-Star to another. But, like most of us, Dirk realizes Durant in Dallas is merely fantasy basketball.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
