Dallas ISD Board Presented $1.6B Improvement Plan

Voters in Dallas ISD will be given the chance to decide on a $1.6 billion improvement package including several new schools, improvements for overcrowding, and facility upgrades under a draft plan presented Thursday.

The initial draft was fronted by Mike Koprowski, chief of transformation and innovation and was created by the community-led Future Facilities Task Force. Koprowski told trustees that he understood how the recent change in district leadership could overshadow any attempts to increase the district's debt.

"I think the comprehensive plan is one of those plans that matters to kids and can not and should not wait," Koprowski said in a statement released by the district.

The plan calls for $550.3 million would be given for five new schools and replacement buildings for aging schools. An additional $172.2 million would be spent on classroom additions, including cafeterias, gyms, and auditoriums.

A significant portion of the proposed funds would address aging infrastructure in building new roofs, heating and cooling system improvements, and new windows.

The proposed plan is expected to evolve and change over the coming weeks. Click HERE to view the plan documents proposed to the board.
