The assault happened at about 12:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart located in the 3800 block of State Highway 31.
Sources told NBC 5 that a man walked into the store, stabbed the store greeter, identified as Marcus Polk, with an unknown object, then left.
Corsicana police apprehended a person suspected in the attack a short time later.
Polk was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
"He came up right behind me and he stabbed me multiple times," Polk explained. "You're never prepared for that. I did not expect that to occur at all."
The latest news from around North Texas.
Polk is well-known and loved by many Wal-Mart customers in Corsicana.
"I had no idea I touched people in such a great way," Polk said, reading his text messages and Facebook comments. "My time of need, they would be on my side."
Polk said he has seen the suspect in the store before, but doesn't know him. The man didn't speak to him before the attack, Polk said.
"I never saw him. He came out of nowhere," said Polk. "I have to look on the bright side. It could have been a lot worse, you know."
"Whatever happened to you, it's because of God's mercy," Polk's father, Robert, told him. "Thankful to God I still got him."
The suspect's identity has not been released by investigators.
