Carjacking Ends in Fiery Crash in Dallas: Police

Police say a carjacking suspect was killed after a chase ended in a fiery crash in Dallas late Wednesday night.

According to Lt. Pedro Barineau, Garland police spokesman, two men carjacked an SUV from a couple at gunpoint near a park in the 1200 block of Briar Hollow Lane in Garland around 11 p.m.

One of the men drove off in the car, leaving the other behind, Barineau told NBC DFW.

Officers initially stopped the suspect in the SUV about an hour later at  aWalmart, according to a news release.

The driver took off once police approached, and officers gave chase, police said.

The pursuit continued westbound into Dallas where the vehicle lost control and crashed into a traffic signal at the Interstate 30 service road and Jim Miller Road.

The identity of the deceased was not released.

The second suspect is still at large, according to police.
