Central Texas Police Say Girl, 15, Shot by Father

Police in Central Texas say a 15-year-old girl is being treated for wounds suffered when her father shot her during an apparent domestic dispute.

Temple police spokeswoman Shawana Neely said in a statement Saturday that the girl's mother drove her to a hospital emergency room for treatment but then left.

The teen suffered injuries to her arm and abdomen in the shooting Friday.

Neely says 44-year-old Quentin Lamont Smith was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The girl told officers she was shot while in a vehicle behind a Temple apartment complex.

Neely says Smith and the mother may have been arguing and the dispute precipitated the shooting. But she said investigators are still working to determine what transpired.
