Cleburne police detectives are investigating the city's first homicide of 2012.
Early Thursday morning, Cleburne police received a call that someone had been shot in the 100 block of Shaffer Street.
Officers found 30-year-old Brian Poole, of Mesquite, dead in a building. He had been shot twice and wrapped in a blanket.
Friends and acquaintances said the building where Poole was found used to be a hair salon but was converted to a room in which someone was living.
One man said Poole was trying to start a rap career. According to Poole's Facebook page, his stage name was GHo$TMaN. He had recorded a few songs and put them on his page.
Police later arrested James Sample, 31, of Dallas, in Poole's death and charged him with murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Friends said Sample was armed and had a laser-sight on his gun.

Detectives also arrested Howard "Blaine" Dudley, 54, of Cleburne, and Joseph Alvarez, 29, of San Angelo, on suspicion of tampering with evidence. Kimberly Dudley, 56, of Cleburne, was charged with tampering with evidence and drug possession.
Cleburne detectives said they aren't sure how everyone knew each other but confirmed that Sample and Poole were not strangers.
Police also said that someone called 911 early Thursday morning to report the shooting, but detectives didn't want to say who called because the investigation is ongoing.
All four suspects in the case will remain in the Johnson County Correction Center until their arraignment, which is scheduled to take place Friday.
