Arlington Police Find Missing 9-Year-Old Boy

Arlington police reported late Saturday afternoon that a missing 9-year-old had been located at Bowie High School.

Police began looking for Trey Ossenkop after he walked into a wooded area near Williams Elementary School in southeast Arlington around noon on Friday.

Arlington police announced via Twitter at 4:45 p.m. that Trey had been located at Bowie High School and he was being checked out by officers and medical personnel. They say a school security guard recognized him.

"Obviously he probably knew we were looking for him and so he took off running and they said he ran onto the field," said Arlington Police Sgt. Christopher Cook. "They were able to grab him and kind of hold him and calm him down and say, look, you're not in trouble. We've been looking for you for over a day now."

Police say Trey spent Friday night at a friend's house. The friend's parent didn't know the boy was missing, police said.

Family, friends and dozens of volunteers spent Saturday searching for the boy and passing out flyers.

The city activated it's reverse 911 system to ask residents to help look for Trey.

Family members say he has a history of running away from home but never stayed out a whole night.

"I need my son to come home," his mother Lauren Ossenkop tearfully told NBC DFW. "He has a loving family."

CPS is now investigating. Family members say Trey will be evaluated for 14 days.

Arlington police did not issue an Amber Alert because they said the case did not meet the criteria for one.
