Thieves Targeting Specific SUVS in North Texas

Thieves are targeting a specific type of SUV in North Texas.

For the second time since May, a stolen Cadillac Escalade has turned up stripped of anything with value.

Bradley Rodgers bought his 2010 Escalade a week before it was stolen in June.

"I loved the car. I didn't expect it to be stolen that quick, that’s for sure,” Rodgers said.

His mom noticed the Escalade missing from the carport of their apartment on Vista Court in Plano.

"I was heartbroken,” Jana Rodgers said. “I couldn't believe that something like this would've happened to us, especially just moving into this complex."

Rodgers took photos after the SUV was recovered in Dallas. The vehicle was stripped almost down to the frame.

“Nothing left of it. They took everything but the frame. They took the doors, the engine, the hood, the entire front end,” he said.

The same thing happened to Tabatha Roney in May.

“I was in total shock,” Roney said. Her 2011 Escalade was stolen from her apartment complex on Verde Valley Lane in North Dallas. It was recovered with the seats, roof, engine and even the airbags removed.

“They’ll even literally cut the vehicle in half to make certain that they can get the sunroof, the entertainment system, the motors that operate the sunroof all in one part and they’ll sell it later pieces at a time,” said NBC 5 Law Enforcement Expert Don Peritz.

Police have not said whether the cases are related.

The Rodgers' now park their vehicles in a way they hope will prevent thieves from striking again. They want other Escalade owners to be warned.

“This is supposed to be a secure parking lot, but it still got stolen, so I don’t think it matters where you live, if they want the car bad enough they’re going to take it,” Bradley Rodgers said.
