Standoff Ends With No Arrests

A standoff at a Duncanville store ended early Monday after police determined the two men witnesses said tried to rob the store had fled the building.

A Dollar General Store employee who hid in a bathroom throughout the standoff was shaken but OK, city spokeswoman Tonya Lewis said. Police had been able to talk to her by cell phone during the standoff.

Lewis said four people who were in the building when the robbers barged in were able to escape.

Police surrounded the store for about three hours late Sunday. The standoff ended about 12:15 a.m. Monday.

Lewis said authorities didn't know if the men were still inside and decided to err on the side of caution, sending in a SWAT team. The team found that the men had fled.

Bennie Armstrong said in a story in Monday's online edition of The Dallas Morning News that she was paying for coffee when the men came in. They were armed and had backpacks, she said.

"They just came in and told everybody to hit the floor," she said. "I was in shock."

She said she ran out of the story when the men went looking for a manager.

Duncanville is a Dallas suburb.
