Soldier Returns to See Dying Grandma

A North Texas soldier returned home from war Wednesday morning in time to see his terminally ill grandmother one last time.

Army PFC Chase Horner is on a two week leave from Iraq. His mother, Tommie Graves, waited anxiously at DFW International for her son to come home.

"I'm just so happy," Graves said after seeing her son walk through the terminal.

It's a moment that could not have come soon enough.

"My mother is terminal," Graves said. "They gave her six months to two years to live."

The 63-year-old woman has COPD and was supposed to be at the airport for the soldier's arrival, but was too sick to make it.

"I can't wait to see my grandma," PFC Horner said. "That will be our first stop on the way home."

Horner has been away since September. He and his cousin are both actively serving overseas.

"When they left, she didn't know if she would see them again," Graves added.

PFC Horner will return to Iraq May 1. His cousin will return home for an R&R leave next month.
