Officer-Involved Shooting Injures Man in Dallas

One person has been injured by gunfire following a Dallas officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning.

Dallas police said patrol officers were investigating undisclosed criminal activity in the Urban Park area near the 6100 block of Petain Avenue just before 2 a.m. when two people, one of whom was armed, approached Sr. Cpl. John Casey.

Police said Casey fired his weapon, injuring the armed person. That person, whose identity and condition has not been released, was taken to Baylor Medical Center for treatment.

Police said other individuals involved in the incident ran into a house near Elmira Street and Petain Avenue. SWAT units were called to assist and surrounded the home. SWAT officers later entered the home and detained several people who surrendered. Those individuals are being interviewed by detectives, police said.

According to police, detectives found the second person connected to the earlier shooting at a residence on Lovett Avenue and took that person into custody without incident.  That person's name has also not been released.

NBC 5 crews at the scene were able to see a man being led away from a home in handcuffs at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Three people were also seen being taken away in police cars and one man and three women being detained in handcuffs.

Dallas police have provided no further information on the shooting or the investigation into criminal activity in the area.
