NASCAR Fans Say Goodbye to Jeff Gordon at TMS

Gordon fans upset that Sunday will be his last race at TMS

NASCAR engines roared around Texas Motor Speedway as history is being written this weekend at the track.

“Oh my God, we are huge Jeff Gordon fans,” said Kelly Hennessey.

“I’ve been watching Jeff Gordon since day one,” said Patricia Powell.

Sunday will be Gordon's last race at Texas Motor Speedway.

“Oh, it just breaks my heart,” said Powell.

“Man, it’s upsetting,” said Hennessey. “It’s kind of sad because he's a great NASCAR driver.”

Hennessey got the chance to take a picture with Gordon last year and then took another with her favorite driver Friday after qualifying at TMS.

Inside Gordon's garage Friday night, mechanics worked on the #24 car getting it ready for the AAA Texas 500.

Gordon has plenty of horse power for the weekend. Texas Motor Speedway gave the famous driver two ponies as a retirement gift.

“That is awesome,” said Gordon at a press conference Friday. “That's the coolest thing ever. Honestly, I don't have property to have these things, but I have a feeling I'm going to start looking.”

Fans waiting for the big race are holding out hope that Sunday won't be Gordon's last race in Texas.

“I’m sure we'll see him maybe one day as a substitute driver,” said Kathy Hennessey. “So, I’m thinking there is still hope to see him on the track.”
