Lawsuit Filed Over Noose at South Texas School

A black South Texas family has filed a racial harassment lawsuit over a noose found near their daughter's car at school.

The lawsuit filed in San Antonio names the Marion Independent School District and several former employees. The lawsuit says three African-American sisters were harassed before recently withdrawing from the district.

A noose and menacing note were found Feb. 6 near a car driven by the oldest girl and parked outside Marion High School. Police and the FBI investigated but dropped the inquiry at the request of the family, which cited health issues.

Family attorney Chris Pittard also says one of the girls received a text showing a noose.

Superintendent Mario Sotello said Monday the district has yet to receive notice of the Oct. 4 lawsuit and declined comment.
