As Dallas and DART Police grieve the loss of 5 of their own in Thursday night’s sniper shooting, police and fire departments from all over are rallying to their sides to support the officers.
On Saturday morning, community members started showing up early to leave notes of support and flowers on the, now very large memorial in front of DPD Headquarters, but among the crowd were several other officers from neighboring departments; come to thank the Dallas officers personally and mourn along-side them.
Martin Munoz, a Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport Detention Officer was finally able to get out to the memorial after working long shifts since the shooting.
“I just felt it’s the right thing to do; to show my department’s support,” said Munoz. "It just feels that...you know...that you lost a family member; that you lost a brother."
Officers from Arlington and the Sheriff’s Department were also seen at the memorial Saturday, as were several DART officers who looked on with heavy hearts for the friend they lost.
On the two police cruisers at the base of the memorial, you’ll find several well wishes sent from departments far and wide as some work to also organize fund raisers or drives for the team in Dallas.
Plano Police and Fire kicked their annual blood drive into high gear Saturday; drawing long lines of people waiting to help out at the Carter Blood Bank mobile units.

"We're there, we get each other’s backs. Right now they need our support,” said Fire Captain Daniel Anderson.
Normally a competition between the departments, this year Anderson’s fire fighters are giving all of the credit to their partners in the Police Department instead.
Several donors waiting in line said they too made the extra effort to come out and help after seeing the tragedy unfold Thursday night.
