Highlights:

In Dallas, Prop 1, the proposition to prohibit the city from building a taxpayer-financed convention center hotel failed by a slim margin -- only 2,000 votes out of 82,000 separated those for and against.

"This is something that's going to be paid for if we can go forward on it, by the visitors, but the people of Dallas get the benefit of all those visitors coming," Mayor Tom Leppert said Saturday night.

Though the proposition has been settled, the controversy surrounding the construction of the hotel is likely to continue for some time.

In Fort Worth, Mayor Mike Moncrief trounced opponents Clyde Picht and Louis McBee to win his fourth consecutive term.  Moncrief secured more than 70 percent of the vote.  Moncrief has also served as a Texas House representative (1971-72), a Texas State senator (1991-2003) and as a Tarrant County judge from 1974-1986.

Arlington Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck is also sticking around for a fourth termCluck defeated four opponents and took nearly 70 percent of the vote. With the win, Cluck will remain in office through the opening of the new Cowboys stadium and the city hosting the Super Bowl in 2011. The move of the Dallas Cowboys to Arlington and securing a Super Bowl are likely the top two accomplishments Cluck will be known for after he retires city management.

Dean Ueckert was elected mayor of Lewisville by almost a 2-1 margin in Saturday’s Lewisville City Council election, but voters will have to wait until June 13 to learn whether John Gorena or TJ Gilmore will serve in Place 4.

In Addison, councilman Todd Meier lost his mayoral campaign to two-term incubment Joe Chow.  Meier left his position on the City Council to compete for the mayor's job -- saying he hoped to bring a "fresh perspective" to Addison and to revitalize the city.  Chow, a restauranteur of 22 years, will now begin his third term.

Unofficial voting results from the city secretary's office indicate Joe McCourry will be The Colony's next mayor. Richard Boyer has come out on top in the race for Place 2, with Allen Harris winning his bid for re-election to Place 1 unopposed.

Incumbent Mayor Jim Story defeated Kenneth Kimmons in Bedford.  Story won another three-year term by a margin of 83 percent to 17 percent.

With 86 percent of the vote tallied, incumbent Brian Loughmiller leads George Fuller in McKinney's mayor race. In Plano, with 57 percent of the vote in, Phil Dyer has a near insurmountable lead over challenger David Fincannon -- 86 percent to 14 percent.

Several cities passed alcohol propositions, including Cleburne, Rio Vista, Melissa, Princeton and Westlake.

Rowlett successfully snuffed out cigarettes with the passing of an anti-smoking ordinance.
