Hope Delivered to Harvey Victims in the Form of a Handbag

A ladies boutique in Carrollton loaded up hundreds of handbags filled with supplies on Sunday to be taken to women affected by Hurricane Harvey down in Rockport.

Paula Smith and Robbie Bohmier, the owners of A Honey of a Deal, put up a post on social media and a note on their store door asking for people to donate purses to women in need.

“I can’t even imagine going day to day and not having my purse, I mean they have nothing but ziplock baggies,” said Smith.

Bohmier said she thought they would be lucky to get 50 handbags, but they ended up getting around 400 handbags.

“There were purses everywhere, underneath every single table. We were covering shelves with purses,” said Smith.

Each bag was filled with personal care items and a handwritten note.

“To have something of their own, and to know that somebody else cares for them… I think is huge,” said Bohmier.

On Sunday, they loaded a van full of purses to be delivered.

They said they are planning to take them to Bethel Baptist Church in Rockport by Monday.
