Guard Killed in Houston Armored Car Holdup

Police say they're looking for three people in the fatal shooting of an armored car guard during a holdup in northwestern Houston Thursday.

A police statement said the Thursday afternoon shooting happened outside a Popeye's restaurant.

Investigators said Francis Hazzard, a 68-year-old guard with Loomis Cash Handling Co., had just emerged from the restaurant with a black bag of cash in his hand.

When three armed masked men approached him and tried to snatch the bag, Hazzard resisted and a struggle ensued until one of the masked men shot Hazzard once in the face.

As Hazzard fell to the ground, he dropped the bag and his own weapon.

The robbers grabbed the bag and fled in a champagne-colored Chevrolet Tahoe before switching to a black 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
