Frisco Family Gathers Donations for Wreaths at Veterans' Gravesites

The holidays will never be the same for families who've lost a loved one fighting for our country.

Chris and Mary Bush lost their son, Cpl. Peter Courcy, in Afghanistan in 2009.

Now, the Frisco couple is on a mission to honor all veterans during the holidays at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery.

They're spearheading a local effort through the Wreaths Across America program.

For a $15 donation, wreaths are placed at gravesites for veterans.

The Bushes began gathering donations after Courcy was killed in action. After his funeral, they say they were surprised to learn D-FW National Cemetery had less than 50 wreaths donated the year before.

"At the time there were 19,000 gravesites, and I just immediately said this is something we've got to change," Chris Bush said.

There are now more than 44,000 gravesites at the cemetery.

Last year, about 10,000 wreaths were placed by headstones, and the Bushes hope to exceed that number this year.

Tuesday is the deadline to donate. For every two wreaths donated, D-FW National Cemetery will receive three.

They will be placed throughout the cemetery during a ceremony Dec. 12th that begins at 10:50 a.m.
