Fatal Crash Snarls EB I-30 Traffic at Lake Ray Hubbard

A 24-year-old woman was killed early Friday morning after being thrown from a vehicle and hit by a passing car on the Lake Ray Hubbard Bridge.

According to the Dallas Police Department, a stranded driver and a tow truck were parked on the emergency shoulder of the bridge along Interstate 30 near Dalrock Road at about 2 a.m.

While parked, the tow truck was struck from behind by a vehicle that ended up spinning into the traffic lanes.

The driver of that car told police he made an evasive move to try to avoid a vehicle that had cut him off and, as he veered to the right and back to the left, struck the back-left side of the tow truck with the front-right part of his vehicle.

Police said the collision caused the man's vehicle to spin around.  As it rotated, 24-year-old Charleen Harney was ejected from the vehicle.

Harney landed in the road and was fatally struck by oncoming traffic.

At this time no arrests have been made in connection with the crash and police have not said if they expect to file any charges.

The crash closed the highway for several hours, but reopened by 6 a.m.
