Elderly Driver Hits Water Employee in Work Zone

A Fort Worth man is hospitalized in stable condition after someone hit him in a work zone.

According to the city, a water employee was struck while he and another worker were doing routine maintenance on a sewer line in the eastbound lanes of Rosedale Street at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The water employees set up orange construction cones behind their van, but an elderly woman ignored the warnings, police said. She hit one of the men, pinning him against his van.

The man was rushed to the hospital for surgery.

"I had a chance to see his family," Mayor Betsy Price said. "His mom and dad were there, his wife and daughter were there, his brother who is a Fort Worth police officer."

"We had a chance to visit with all of them, and they are in good spirits and just asking for our thoughts and prayers," Price said.

The employee has worked for the city for the past seven years.

The driver was also taken to a hospital, but there was no word Monday night on her condition.
