DeSoto ISD's New Super to Start April 2

Harris to start April 2

After months without a leader, the search for a new superintendent in the DeSoto Independent School District is over.

Dr. David Harris will begin his tenure as the superintendent of the DeSoto ISD on April 2 and work through the remainder of the current contract cycle (June 30).  After that, Harris will begin his first full year in the district.

Harris, who will be paid an annual salary of $180,000, has a masters in education from Prairie View A&M and a doctoral degree in education administration from Texas A&M.

“Dr. Harris was the applicant who rose to the top and the person to take us to the next level,” said search committee member Aubrey Hooper, on the DeSotoISD.org website. “We will now return our focus completely to the future of DeSoto ISD and student learning.”

Harris currently works for the Beaumont ISD.

The district hired Kathy Augustine last year, but bought out her contract in August after she was named in a massive cheating scandal in her former district in Atlanta.
