Dallas Police Investigate 14th Oak Lawn Attack

The Dallas Police Department is investigating another attack in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas.

Police said the victim — a 54-year-old man — was leaving the Round Up Saloon in the 3900 block of Cedar Springs Road Dec. 19 when two men attacked him from behind near a parking lot.

"The suspects knocked him to the ground, kicked him and stole property from him," according to Assistant Police Chief Randall Blankenbaker with the Dallas Police Department.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the attack.

"During this altercation, at least one of the suspects used offensive language in reference to the victims perceived sexual orientation," Blakenbaker said.

According to police, the victim did not immediately report the crime. Instead he was encouraged to call police the next day after arriving at work with what police call visible injuries.

"The victim went to the central patrol station yesterday and reported the offense," said Blakenbaker. "We believe at this time, the allegations as we know them, at this time indicate the victim was the target of a bias crime."

This is the 14th offense in the area police are investigating.
