Thanksgiving holiday travelers in Texas should buckle up this year no matter where they are seated in a vehicle.
The Department of Public Safety on Tuesday said troopers will be on patrol watching for speeders, drivers who are drunk and anyone not properly secured by safety restraints.
New laws that took effect Sept. 1 require everyone in a vehicle to wear a seat belt, no matter their age or location. The age of children required to ride in a booster seat went from under 5 to under 8, or shorter than 4-feet-9.
Texas troopers, during last year's Wednesday through Sunday Thanksgiving period, wrote 5,322 citations for speeding and made 252 DWI arrests. Troopers wrote 562 citations for seat belt violations and 257 for child restraint violations.
