AA, TWU Mechanics Still Inching Toward a Deal

Fort Worth-based American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union Mechanic & Related committee met Friday with mediators in Hurst to negotiate a new deal, but have yet to come to terms.

American wants to limit benefits it pays to mechanics in exchange for pay raises.

Mechanics said the cuts are too much after they made concessions and gave up millions to keep the airline out of bankruptcy in 2003.

According to AANegotiations.com, of the 47 items being discussed, only 10 items are still being negotiated. Both sides said they are committed to continuing to work on a deal.

Last year, AA said a tentative deal was reached with the mechanics union but that deal was never ratified.

AA and the TWU have been in negotiations on this deal since 2007 and went to mediation in 2009.
