What You're Doing This Weekend

OPERA IN THE ARENA: Andrea Bocelli's tenor tones have been long respected in the contemporary operatic world, but we'd have bet his performance would have been in the Meyerson or Bass Hall before thinking it would take up the space normally occupied by grown men skating and beating each other up. AAC at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Congratulations again to the lucky few who won tickets from our sweepstakes for this event. Bummed you didn't win? Check back this week for another ticket giveaway.

COUNTRY STARS AND HOOTIE, TOO: Sorry, Rascal Flatts, but we like Tom Cochrane's "Life is a Highway" better than the cover you twanged out for Pixar's Cars. Just look at you now, playing with Hootie and no blowfish. We're disappointed, you Rascals. Superpages.com Center at 8 p.m. Saturday.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME: If you ever find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile asking yourself how you've gotten there, you owe David Byrne some royalties. Get ready for his adventurous singing-dancing-artistic spectacular scheduled to hit the Majestic Theater stage at 8 p.m. Sunday.

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MEYERSON FRIENDS: Remembering back to when we were obsessed with "The Wonder Years" (and who wasn't?) we'd always imagined that the guy singing the theme -- a inspired cover of The Beatles "With A Little Help From My Friends" -- had just read the lyrics and never heard the original song. How else would be able to sound so different? Let's see if the version holds up when Joe Cocker sings in the Meyerson Symphony Center for a 7:30 p.m. Sunday show.

JOAN CRAWFORD IN DRAG: After reading a little more about it, we simply must recommend "Mommy Queerest", a straight up (pun intended) parody of the classic film  "Mommy Dearest" adapted for a cast of four men in drag. Check out the Uptown Players' latest spoof on Sunday for an 8 p.m. curtain.
