5/19: Put Me In Coach!

No matter if it's watching it or making it, having fun's only natural.

RACE FOR THE PRIZE: Five days ago Dallas filmmakers of all skill levels and ages gathered together at the Angelika Film Center at 11:59 p.m. and received four items: One theme, one prop, one location and one line of dialogue. 24 hours later the few, the proud, the brave returned to the scene of this crime of insanity with their completed films. Tonight a portion of those completed films will be screened not only for the contestants, but for the general public as well. Come out to see what your friends and neighbors have been up to.

MIDDLE EARTH: If you’ve been looking for the perfect mix of renaissance fair and modern theater, the Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park has got you covered with “Green Fields, Black Smoke: Nature and Progress When Dallas was Young.” Reenacting life in 1888 Dallas, a troupe of professional actors explore the environmental practices of the day, while examining how those practices relate to current day Dallas. Other dramatic themes include the industrial revolution and its effect on family farming.

IT’S ONLY NATURAL: There are all kinds of opinions on the first-place Texas Rangers. While those opinions might have folks slinging Frito pie at each other, we say simply, “take us out to the ballgame!” Barring Little House on the Prairie, there is nothing more American than baseball, and seeing a major league game while the weather is still nice is just the bees knees. Plus you can never -- and we mean never -- beat the taste of a hot dog in the ballpark, and that’s not opinion, that’s just the honest truth.
