Goodbye, Southern Accents Magazine, We Hardly Read You

Southern Accents magazine is the latest to be cut from Time Inc's Southern Progress magazine company

Another part of the Birmingham, Alambama-based Southern Progress magazine company is folding.

Time Inc. said Thursday it will shut down its Southern Accents magazine -- but their website will go on.

The 32-year-old magazine was published six times a year and focused on luxurious homes, entertaining, travel, fine arts and antiques.

DallasDirt's Candy Evans points out the shuttering could affect at least one local project:

The announcement leads to speculation of the future of the Southern Accents Showhouse, located near Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, whose lead designer is Joseph A. Minton and Associates. According to preliminary reports, the showhouse will go on as planned with marketing coverage in Southern Living and Coastal Living Magazines, also published by Southern Progress.

The announcement marked the second time in eight months that Time, a unit of New York-based Time Warner Inc., has quit publishing a magazine put out by Southern Progress Corp. Cottage Living magazine went out of business in January.

Southern Progress is best known for Southern Living magazine, which is almost exclusively read in doctors offices, hotel lobbies, or model homes.
