Watch for ‘whimsy and Weird Sweetness' in Dallas Run of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'

Jack O'Brien grew up singing and dancing. He could play piano by ear and was always writing "little ditties." But it wasn't on the stage where he found his calling. It was behind the scenes as a director. He's won three Tony Awards -- for Hairspray, Henry IV and The Coast of Utopia -- and received many more nominations. In addition to directing, he also produces, writes and is a lyricist. Not only has he staged major productions at notable theaters such as the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the Ahmanson in Los Angeles, he's also directed six movies for the American Playhouse series on PBS.His theater awards are countless, and he also snagged an Emmy for his documentary, Becoming Mike Nichols. Now, he's brought his talents to the tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a musical based on the popular story by Roald Dahl.
