WASHINGTON — A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol official said Tuesday that the agency aims to start construction on border wall prototypes by the end of summer.The border patrol has reallocated $20 million to begin wall planning and fund construction of four to eight prototypes. After narrowing the number of applicants, there are still a "considerable number" of companies vying for the job, Acting Deputy Commissioner Ron Vitiello said."Completion of the prototype construction is expected within 30 days after the issuance of the notice to proceed," he said.The prototypes will be built along the existing border fence in San Diego, several at the same time, Vitiello added.
