Texas Game Wardens Turn to Drone to Aid in Search-and-rescue Efforts

Game wardens in Texas will soon have some help from above.The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department recently acquired a DJI Inspire 2 drone through its Gear Up for Game Wardens program. The drone is equipped with cameras that can feed live high-definition video back to a television. The Inspire 2 has a top speed of 58 mph, and can reach 50 mph in just five seconds. It has a range of four miles. The department plans to use the drone in remote areas during search-and-rescue missions, and in the wake of natural disasters. The need for such a device came in the wake of the 2015 Wimberley floods and Hurricane Harvey. Officials say they will use it to spot potential hazards ahead of a rescue.   Continue reading...
