Man Who Kidnapped, Raped, Robbed UT-Arlington Student at Gunpoint Is Sentenced to 60 Years

An Arlington man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the rape and kidnapping of a University of Texas at Arlington student last year.Joel Engobo Mambe, 21, pleaded guilty in April to charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault. He was sentenced Thursday by a Tarrant County judge after the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation.Mambe has been in the Tarrant County jail since his arrest June 21, the day after authorities say he kidnapped the UT-Arlington student at gunpoint in her apartment complex's parking lot.The victim told police that a man approached her around 3 a.m. after she had parked at the Midtown Apartments at UTA Boulevard and South Davis Drive.As she got out of her car, the man demanded money while pointing a gun at her, then forced her to get back in the driver's seat.  Continue reading...
