Former Arlington Police Sergeant Accused of Sexually Abusing a Child

A former Arlington police sergeant has been arrested over an accusation that he fondled a woman years ago, when she was a child.William Roy Stallsworth, 61, was booked into the Tarrant County jail Thursday one one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact. He has since been released after posting $5,000 bond.Police started investigating after the woman, now 26, made an outcry in May that Stallsworth had touched her inappropriately in the early 2000s.She did not report the abuse then because she was afraid "no one would believe her as a child making accusations against an adult, particularly due to the career of the suspect," according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.The woman said that Stallsworth had taken her on a ride in his pickup, during which he put her on his lap and touched her breasts, the affidavit says.She told police she was worried about the amount of contact Stallsworth now has with children.Stallsworth, who retired in 2014 after more than three decades with the police department, is a volunteer at a vacation Bible school, the newspaper reported. He is the co-owner of Arlington Volleyball Academy, which advertises private lessons for girls.He refused to comment when reached by the Star-Telegram.  Continue reading...
