A California pet food company has pulled two kinds of beef- and poultry-based products off the shelves after pentobarbital was found in cans sold in Texas.Pentobarbital is a sedative commonly used for euthanasia in dogs and cats. It's also the drug used by Texas to execute death-row inmates.Party Animal Inc., a West Hollywood company that makes organic pet food, has recalled products from two lots after a customer complained to a Texas retailer about the presence of pentobarbital found in Cocolicious Beef and Turkey dog food and Cocolicious Chicken and Beef dog food.The customer presented samples of the food to a testing lab, and they tested positive for the drug, according to a prepared statement from Party Animal. The company said the food in question was made and distributed in 2015. It's asking customers and retailers to return cans from Lot No. 0136E15204 04, best by July 2019, and Lot No. 0134E15 237 13, best by August 2019."We sincerely regret the reports of the discomfort experienced by the pet who consumed this food," Party Animal said in its statement.
