Day 1 of a New Legislative Session Brings Applause, Smiles and a Long Road Ahead

The 85th Texas Legislative Session began today at the state capital in Austin.Traditionally, the first day of the session is mostly pomp and circumstance. Family members join their senators and representatives on the floor, and the session lasts around two hours. The real work begins tomorrow and lasts through May 29, 2017.
