Dan Patrick on Speculation He's Taking a Job With Trump: ‘End That Rumor. It's Crazy'

AUSTIN — Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says he hasn't been asked, and won't be taking, a job in the Trump administration.At two different events Wednesday, Patrick spoke about his trip to Washington, DC on Tuesday that forced him to miss the first day of the legislative session. "It was a very late ask and it was a tough judgment call. But when the White House calls, you respond," Patrick said at a morning press conference with Gov. Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dennis Bonnen. "I'm not going anywhere as lieutenant governor of Texas."In an interview later Wednesday morning with Texas Realtors, he added that he "told the president on Day 1" that he was not interested in a job in the administration. Patrick said several people have reached out to him, concerned that he was being offered a job in Trump's administration, possibly as Secretary of Homeland Security."I have not been offered a job, I'm not interested in a job," Patrick said. "End that rumor, it's crazy."Patrick is scheduled to speak once more Wednesday at a conference at the conservative think tank the Texas Public Policy Foundation.This is a breaking news story.
