Arlington Police Arrest 29-year-old Man Linked to 2018 Road-rage Incident Where Driver Was Shot in the Head

Arlington police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a 2018 road-rage incident in which another driver was shot in the head in front of his family.Andrew Cantu turned himself in to Arlington police on Tuesday and faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in the Arlington jail.Cantu's arrest stems from an Oct. 22 incident in the 1900 block of east Interstate 20 where Kyle Johnson suffered a graze wound to the side of his head as he prepared to exchange information with another driver after the two had been involved in a wreck.instead, the other driver screamed, began kicking Johnson's door and mirror, then pulled out a gun and fired at him.Arlington spokesman Christopher Cook said Johnson turned his head at the last second, which likely saved his life.According to the arrest warrant, after Johnson was shot, the bullet continued through the passenger window and narrowly missed Johnson's fiance, who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Seconds earlier, she urged the shooter to calm down because there were children in the car, the affidavit read.No one else in Johnson's car was hurt.Cantu was found after a months-long search that began when someone who said they worked with him noticed a news story and called authorities, the arrest affidavit states.
