All Together for the Big Squeeze: Conjunto Competitions Keep Texas Music Tradition Popping

LA JOYA - It’s the music of his father and of a misunderstood region - flashbacks go through the mind of Eduardo Garza Jr. as he jams his accordion, singing with joy and pride.“I think of where I’m from, the people coming across the border and especially I think of my father and the music he handed down to me,” said Garza, 18, Eddie to his friends.Last week, Garza won the annual Big Squeeze accordion competition in Austin and now he’s among the competitors at the grand Tejano Conjunto Festival, which began Wednesday and runs through Sunday, drawing groups from all over the world, including North Texas, to San Antonio.  Continue reading...
