PLANTING SEEDS: Art Conspiracy isn't taking your money in coffee tins tonight. The group is taking your money for them at the summertime SEED fundraiser. Twenty artists fashioned lanterns out of the containers for an auction to boost funds for a larger-scale event benefiting Resolana, a program that helps incarcerated women get their lives on track. Sarah Jane Semrad, one of DFW's 25 Most Interesting People according to our summer feature, leads the AC group. At Sons of Herman Hall, with Glen Farris, Airline, and True Widow. 7PM.
PAINTED PINK: Dallas' femme artists (amateur and otherwise) are celebrated at girlShow 2009, a decidedly apolitical festival that splatters fashion, photography, music, and art made by women all over the walls of Christian-souled artspace and cultural center Life in Deep Ellum. Songstress Iris Leu plays with a full band to start the festivities at 8PM.
STARS AND SONS: Seeing Canadian indie-orchestral supergroup Broken Social Scene on stage is like peeking at the wizard behind the curtain and realizing he's not a wizard at all, he's a tower of acrobats standing on each other's shoulders, functioning as a powerful, united whole. Fort Worth's stunning Telegraph Canyon opens for the band at the Palladium Ballroom, an honor previously bestowed on BSS contributor Leslie Feist herself. 9PM.
